An Oasis in the Desert
From the Monday, March 19 Chattanooga Times Free Press “Letters to the Editors”:
Letter brings positive results
One year and a half ago, you published my letter concerning the Dollar General Stores’ abandonment of its Westside customers. Your publication of that letter brought about the march of Westside residents and other concerned citizens from Renaissance Presbyterian Church past the empty store to Beuhler’s food market to make the public aware of our plight.
And today, a new One Stop store is being constructed with the walls that once housed Dollar General. I don’t know who the owner is, but through the windows one can see custom made display cases, counters and shelves, a sloped produce table. Also there is a rear wall of cold boxes, and this morning a man was installing a refrigeration unit for a freezer. Very soon we will have a neighborhood store again. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I am very grateful to God that Mr. Perrin Lance and Mr. Chris Brooks saw my letter, and together with other active people in the area created Chattanooga Organized for Action, whose members and friends marched with us and are helping us save our community.
